Nature, 436, 2005, 238-239 Abstract: Molecular motion of methanol adsorbed in 1D nano-channels of pillared- layer coordination polymer with paramagnetic metal ion have been studied by 2H NMR together with X-ray crystallography. We report high levels of selective sorption of acetylene molecules as compared to a very similar molecules, carbon dioxide, onto the functionalized surface of a MOM. The astylene molecules are held at a periodic distance from one another by hydrogen bonding between two non-coordinated oxygen aotms in the nanoscale pore wall of the MOM and the two hydrogen atoms of the acetylene molecule. This permits the stables storages of scetylene at a density 200 times the safe compression limit of free acetylene at room temperatere. *********************************************************************
